Pictures from New Mexico Trip And if you don’t care about movies…
Jun 04

So ever since Josh was born, the movie watching (in theaters) that Leann and I have done has gone down significantly. Even more so since Jackson was born, though that’s only been five months ago.

However, there honestly hasn’t been too many things I wanted to see in the theaters that I didn’t. Really, it’s been a fairly slow past few years. There have been movies that I’ve seen here and there, and even one1 that I saw last year three times in the theater.

This summer is drastically different. There are literally TONS2 of movies coming out in the theater that I want to see. There’s been a couple I already have. Here’s the big list of the films and release dates, most of which I will see (or did see) on it’s opening weekend.

April 27 - Next

This movie is based on a short story by Philip K. Dick. This is the same guy who wrote short stories that many other sci-fi films have been based on, including Total Recall, Minority Report3, Blade Runner, Paycheck and several others.

I saw it, I loved it. I will almost certainly buy this one on DVD as well.

May 4 - Spider-man 3

It was okay. I wasn’t big on the small period of time that Peter was in the black Spidey suit. That could have been done way better.

May 24 - Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End

So this one was really fun. When Pirates 2 came out, I heard that it was basically act one of a two act movie. So I actually refrained from seeing it until Pirates 3 came out. Dad and I got Pirates 2 on DVD, watched it on Saturday, then went and saw Pirates 3 Sunday afternoon. It was great, despite sitting on like the third row from the front of the theater.

June 1 - Knocked Up

Leann and I had wanted to see this, though we had no immediate plans to. However, my mom was up for a few days, and I ended up convincing Leann that we could see the 9:50pm show and leave my mom at home with the sleeping kids. The movie was absolutely hilarious, though it had a lot of cursing and nudity. As one would expect, as it was originally planned to be a sequel to 40-year Old Virgin.

Okay, here’s the movies coming out that I plan to see in the theaters.

June 8 - Ocean’s Thirteen

This is one of the few movies this summer that Leann actually wants to go see with me. Too bad she’s out of town. If she wasn’t, we could go see this on the opening weekend. As it is, we’ll have to wait. That’s okay, we can use the Night At The Movies pass I got when going to see Pirates 3.

June 15 - Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer

When dad and I went to see Pirates 3, there was an awesome display with a completely 3D Silver Surfer life-size replica in the lobby of the Quail Springs AMC. Awesome. Can’t wait for this one.

June 22 - Evan Almighty

Sequel to Bruce Almighty. Looks hilarious. Leann will probably go see this one, too.

June 27/29 - Live Free or Die Hard

I love the original Die Hard trilogy4. This one is listed as June 29 some places, though my understanding is that it’s actually coming out on my birthday, June 27. I can’t wait to see it.

July 4 - Transformers

My parents were thrifty spenders, so I grew up with Gobots rather than Transformers. Although I wondered at the time why other kids had that cool semi5, I didn’t realize what was going on until years later.

Anyway, I may go with Brent Fuchs to see this one.

July 11 - Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix

Yep, can’t wait for this one. The second to last Harry Potter movie. Note to self: Reserve upcoming book…

July 20 - I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry

Leann and I both like Adam Sandler and Kevin James. And this one looks pretty funny. This will be one of the few that Leann actually wants to go see with me.

July 27 - The Simpsons Movie

Unlike others who have given up the Simpsons (you know who you are) or have given up on the Simpsons (Leann), I still find them as hilarious as I did when I wasn’t supposed to be watching them back in middle school. I will definitely be at this one.

August 3 - The Bourne Ultimatum

The Bourne movies are awesome. If I had more time, I would read the books as well. But I don’t, so I won’t. This is a great action movie series.

August 10 - Rush Hour 3

Leann and I both liked the first two in this series, so hopefully she’ll be going to this one with me as well.

August 24 - Mr. Bean’s Holiday

Mr. Bean is hilarious. If you like dry British humor, especially. And I do.

August 31 - Balls of Fury

Ah, a movie about ping-pong. Christopher Walken is creepily hilarious. Leann hates him, though.

That’s it! As if that wasn’t enough.

If you feel the need to donate to the “Tim’s Summer of Movies” fund, feel free. If I don’t buy any snacks or drinks at the theater (and I can’t afford to, with this many movies), and assuming Leann goes to see some but not all of these, I should get out of the summer spending about $120-$140 more, depending on how many Leann actually sees with me.

Yeah, this will be the last summer like this for quite awhile.

1. If you know me at all, you know which one it was.
2. Weight determined by combining weights of all actors involved.
3. Originally planned as a sequel to Total Recall
4. And yet don’t have them on DVD. I’ll probably wait for all 4 in a box set now.
5. Optimus Prime
